Saturday 17th October
Billy Cornbill Charity Day
On 27th September last year, Chilton and Ferryhill lost one of their great characters. Alan “Bill” Cornbill sadly left us, but he certainly hasn’t been forgotten. Everyone who had the pleasure of knowing Bill will have their own stories — memories of a determined, strong, fun‑loving and kind‑hearted man. He loved his family, he loved a pint, and of course, he loved his beloved Newcastle United.
Two things were especially close to Bill’s heart:
The Chilton & Windlestone Banner Appeal, which he carried with pride every year at the Durham Miners’ Gala and Chilton football clubs, especially in his later years, Chilton Juniors.
To mark Bill’s anniversary, Chilton Sports and Social Club would like to invite everyone to the Billy Cornbill Charity Day on Saturday 17th October from 12.30pm onwards. The day will be filled with reminiscing, entertainment, and fundraising for Bill’s two chosen causes.
As a committee, we would love to share this special day with as many Chilton and Ferryhill friends as possible.
We look forward to seeing you all.
Tickets are £5
Tickets can be purchased from Chilton Sports & Social Club or the event organisers Joe Cornbill, Ian Craddock, Richie Hooper, Tommy Scott and others.

CHILTON LEGENDS WALK
Previously known as Otter's Walk, changed at the request of Colin Otterwell's family to pay tribute to the Chilton legends we've lost in the past few years.
The Chilton Legends Walk is our annual tribute to the lads who are no longer with us but will always be part of our village and our club. Each year we come together at Sunderland Bridge, walk the old route to Shincliffe, share stories, raise a glass, and remember the characters who shaped Chilton football.
It’s a day of community, memories, laughter, and pride — a chance to honour our legends the way they lived: side by side, with good company and a bit of daftness along the way.
A walk for the lads. A walk for Chilton.

This years walk
July 25th 2026
A great day with great people in memory of loved ones that are sorely missed.
Familiar faces and new ones made the day a walk to remember.
